Lee Fields & The Expressions - Faithful Man

Lee Fields - You’re The Kind Of Girl

I’m pretty sure I’ve posted this before but it’s the PERFECT sunny weather, spring time song. Makes me most those balcony days in Richmond.

New Lee Fields & The Expressions song “You’re The Kind of Girl”

From the upcoming album Faithful Man, coming out March 13th.

Lee Fields and Charles Bradley at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this past Friday.

…was the best show I’ve been to in a while, and quite possibly, ever. Better than Lauryn Hill in February.

It was a combination of things that I can only put into words via stream of consciousness: Andy Churray, spliffs, Top tobacco, lonely hot Persian (?) girl, Charles Bradley tears, James Brown reincarnated!, Menahan Street Band = The Expressions, dancing! EVERYBODY DANCING, heard Dame Dash was in the building, nobody danced better than the black girl next to me…, girl fights, Love Comes and Goes live =  best shit ever, the emotionless drummer, FRONT ROW, raw as shit energy, Lee Fields is a short, powerful black man.

I still like Lee Fields better but without a doubt, Charles Bradley is the more engaging performer. Sixty-years old and still shaking his pelvis in a way that walks a fine line of acceptability; an act that would usually creep men out but instead had dudes dancing and singing along like it was their crazy uncle up there. Google his story.

This is not to say Lee Fields did not entertain the shit out of everyone. Because he did and I’m going to go ahead and say, he is the better vocalist. Love Comes and Goes and Ladies were performances I will never forget.

The band was amazing. I knew The Menahan Street Band and The Expressions shared members but for one reason or another the band was the same throughout the night. You learn something new everyday. Anyways, these are the type of white dudes that can, and should, get black girls on the regular. So talented, I would pay just to hear them play instrumentals all night.

That’s enough from me. Enjoy some hazy iPhone photos from the front row:

I really wanna see em at Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 1st. Anyone else?
